On our radar this week: the sweetest geek wedding ever; Nimona, a new web comic from Noelle Stevenson; cute robo-pets, plus a few more items.
- Happy birthday, Octavia E. Butler! The brilliant author would have been 65 today. If you haven’t read her work, we recommend checking out Kindred, Wild Seed, or Lilith’s Brood, but really, her entire body of work is a must.
- Congrats to geek couple Scott Everhart and Jason Welker, who got married at Midtown Comics in NY on Wednesday, when Astonishing X-Men No. 51 hit the stands!
- Brave is out today and we’re planning on being there with bells on! The Mary Sue already have a reviewup, if you want to check it out.
- Check out this new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises!
- First few chapters of Noelle Stevenson’s new web comic Nimona are up and looking awesome.
- This article about Alan Turing, whose contribution to modern computing is indisputable, is a heartbreaking but important read
- In another installment of Queering SFF Pride posts on Tor, authors J.A. Pitts and A.M. Dellamonica talk about everything ranging from dragons and swords in their books, to personal life experience and moments of heartache that influenced their writing.

Animation producers are upset by what they view as unequal treatment in Emmy nominations. We certainly see their point, and it’s an interesting argument that could stand to change the way the industry awards its talent in the future.
-
Angelina Jolie looks fantastic in this first look for the upcoming villain-centric live-action adaptation of Sleeping Beauty by Disney, Maleficent. With Charlize Theron owning the screen in Snow White and the Huntsman, we’re excited to see more fairy tale anti-heroes be given the spotlight.
- Natalia Tena has some choice words about the male vs. female nudity in Game of Thrones, and bemoans Osha’s lack of bush in her nude scene this past season.
- Tanya is a bit giddy over this trailer for Lawless, a gritty-looking Depression era flick scripted by Nick Cave himself, and with an impressive cast that includes Gary Oldman (with a machine gun!), Tom Hardy, and Jessica Chastain.
- Love this adorable robo-pet, which recognizes 50 voice commands and can be controlled via a smartphone app. Where can we get one?
- Kyle Hilton’s paper dolls please us immensely and include sets for Parks & Rec, Breaking Bad, and Arrested Development, among many others. His latest is Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, but you can check all the dolls out here.
- Kind of crushing on Olivia Wilde on The Colbert Report.
